Founded in 1990, Motor City Youth Theatre is a nonprofit performing arts theater dedicated to young actors at 27555 Grantland St #2307 in Livonia, MI. It offers productions and educational programs in an intimate, Off-Broadway-style theater setting and welcomes youth of all abilities. Live performances and opportunities for young performers are central to its work. Shakespeare has been part of the theater’s programming since 2005, when Shakespeare for Families began with adults and children performing A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In 2015, a youth cast took the name MCYT Bard Bums and presented eight performances of Midsummer, including one at Wayne State University’s Hilberry Studio Theatre. Past Bard Bums productions include The Tempest, Hamlet, A Shakespeare Re-Mix I and II, and Romeo and Juliet Meet the Hatfields and the McCoys. The theater welcomes families, children and LGBTQ visitors and is identified as a transgender safe space. Wheelchair-accessible features include the entrance, parking, restroom and seating. A restroom is available, but there is no restaurant on site.
