Pontiac Oaks Park, formerly known as Hawthorne Park, preserves 77 acres of green space at 1400 Telegraph Road in Pontiac, MI. Mature trees and nature areas share the grounds with recreational facilities, including an 18-hole disc golf course and horseshoe pits. The park borders Creger Lake and Upper Silver Lake, with a dock and boat launch providing water access for kayaking, canoeing and fishing. For land-based visits, the park has hiking opportunities, including kid-friendly hikes, and a playground with slides and swings. A pavilion and dedicated picnic area provide tables, grills and trash receptacles, and modern public restrooms are available. Dogs are welcome, and free on-site parking is provided. The entrance, parking, restrooms and seating include wheelchair-accessible features. Oakland County has assumed long-term responsibility for park management and maintenance and is investing more than $1.5 million in facility improvements.
